Is My Air Filter Damaged?

One of the most common questions we get is in regards to the Sub-Zero 7007067 Air filter. The air filter is designed to allow air to flow through the top and the bottom of the filter while it's inside your refrigerator. This allows it to scrub the air and prevent harmful gases from spoiling food prematurely. Because of this design, it is common for some of the carbon inside of the filter to "spill" out during transit, causing a layer of "dust" on the unit when you receive it. This is not harmful or dangerous. This is the way the air filter is designed. The excess should be cleaned off with a paper towel before installation, but the filter will still function as intended. In rare cases, the filter can become damaged during shipment, and if that occurs, your unit should alert you that it's time to replace the filter prematurely (usually within 24 hours of installation). If this happens, please contact us immediately for a replacement at no cost.
